My 10 Favourite Food in Turkey.

Another I miss something post. I miss Turkish food a lot! You can't get good ones in Malaysia and some places selling them are overpriced too. I don't mind going back to Turkey to just eat. Someday, I will have my own private jet and I could just fly to Turkey to eat or visit anytime I want. A girl could always dream. :-)

I think I love almost everything I ate there so it was very hard to choose the 10 nicest ones! I surprised many people there like my host families and friends because a petite girl like me can finish a plate of Iskender kebab, ask for more rice (OMG I WAS SO HAPPY WHEN I SAW RICE THERE! Can't live without rice. XD) and basically just eat so much. I did gain some weight from that trip which is good cause I need the weight!

My 10 Favourite Food in Turkey(not in any order)

This is Sulu Kofte, meatballs in carrots and potatoes broth. SO GOOD! My host mums' made it for me and I always go for 2nd servings. I miss my host mums' and their cooking. :-(

This is called Manti. It's something like ravioli and its covered in yogurt and some spices. The best one that I had was somewhere in Besevler, Akin and Bugra brought Anya and I there and it was like a buddies date because my buddy was Akin and Anya's buddy was Bugra. I miss those two boys, they were the few of the nicest people that I have ever met in Turkey.

This one is called Gozleme. It has minced meat and spices inside and usually you roll it and then you eat it. It's like a thicker version of a Roti Canai and with filling. Beside it, is a drink called Ayran, which is plain yogurt mixed with water and salt.

This soup is called Corba and it's so good omg, just thinking about it makes my mouth water! Those white stuff are like noodles and it's like a vegetarian soup. I had this almost every once a week at my workplace over there.

Omg,this one is like one of the most awesomest things that have ever eaten in my life! This is called Dolma cause it does not contain meat inside, the one that contains meat inside is called Sarma. It's rice cooked with herbs and wrapped with grape leaves and it is kept in a container filled with water and usually people will boil it when you want to eat it because it taste better when its hot and it is eaten with yogurt. I have never ate so much yogurt in a span of 1week in my life.

This is a traditional baked rice with herbs and spices and pieces of beef. You can get this in Beypazari.

This is Cigborek! It's deep fried pastry that contains minced meat inside! SO SO SO GOOD! Mouth-watering also!

Akin brought me to this very famous place which sells the AWESOME Cigborek above! Many local celebrities dined there before and it is located in Eskisehir, which is just an hour train ride from Ankara.

Really good roast chicken and....
.
.
.
.

RICE!!!!!!!!!!! XD The way they cooked their rice is different than the Asian people where we use steam to cook our rice or a rice cooker. They will first cook the uncooked rice with oil on a pan then they will pour boiling water onto the rice and let it simmer on low heat until cooked.

I don't know the name of the dessert on the left but the one on the right is called BACLAVA!!! *throws confetti around* I LOVE THEM BOTH! One of my host mums' made that dessert on the left and IT SO AWESOME TOO OMG!!! Her family and her neighbour has always made a gathering every once a week to catch up and share gossips so I was really happy that I get to join them and meet new people and eat awesome food too. :-)

I saved the best for last. May I present to you one of the most AWESOMEST dessert I have ever eaten in my entire life! THE KUNEFE TOPPED WITH TURKISH ICE-CREAM! Omg, the sweet cheese-like thing underneath the crispy things which I think is coconut. I had this on the last day before I left Ankara thanks to my dear buddy, Akin. :-)

Every dessert fan or anyone who has a sweet tooth must add this to your list of MUST have desserts to eat before you die. So where can you get this super awesome delicious must eat dessert? Well, you can get it in any MADO ice-cream shops all over Turkey! You would be happy to know that they even opened a branch in MALAYSIA! I never got the chance to visit MADO in Malaysia yet but I heard from my Turkish friends that it's just as good as the one you can get in Turkey. :-)

I miss Capoeira

I really do miss it! It's been so long since the classes has stopped in my university because Malcolm, my friend and our teacher has flew back to his hometown in Sarawak. It is also because there's not enough active members to keep the club active and I think I'm the only one who goes for the classes often since Nigel already started working so he can't come too. A few people would only come for 1 or 2 classes then they just don't want to come anymore which is pretty sad. I almost wanted to stop too because I was scolding myself for not being able to do a move, I was stressed from assignments and some of my friends didn't like it that I put more priority in capoeira than my assignments.

There's a small part of me that tells me that, why do you care about what other people think and aren't you the one who wanted to learn a new skill to prove to everyone that you can actually do something and work out at the same time? All these years ever since I was young, my family and friends always say that I can't do anything, I can't do sports and I can't dance and I am not good enough like my little sisters who can run just like my mum. These are the things that destroyed my self-esteem and many of you ask why I look so depressed all the time when I was younger. Ever since that trip to Turkey last year, I gained and learned so much and it has made me a stronger person. So many people had doubts of my trip to Turkey but I proved them wrong! I can do things and I am becoming a better person if I learn to love myself more and ignore what everyone else think of me. Also because I read the book called 'The Secret' and 'The Power' where the main points of the books are always saying think positive and positive things will come to you and give love and love will come back to you. Just like karma.

I love capoeira ever since I started learning it. The music, culture and how everyone treats each other as a family. I even got my first corda from Bantus Capoeira Academy last year on my birthday and that was one of the highlights of my life!

It was held in Lot 10 at the entrance near Isetan. Actually even if you can't find the place, just follow the music and you will be able to find it. :-)

I was watching the people with more experience play with each other. My hair was so long that time, it was almost reaching my butt. Somehow, the pants are really loose and long so what you're going to see next is how rusty I was after not practicing capoeira for so long last year.

My graduation ceremony where one of the instructors will play with me and obviously take me down and since it was my first belt, it was to welcome me into the Bantus family. They called my name first too when I was praying in my head to not be the first one so I was so nervous and I didn't have time to do my warm-ups too.

Professor Rafael made me play with the other students who graduated and I was the first person again. Too bad I had to leave early after I got my cord/belt because my family wants to go shopping but that day I received one of the best birthday present that I have ever had. :-)

Roxy bikini!

I couldn't miss the chance of getting a bikini when Roxy had an offer where you purchase 2 apparels and the 2nd apparel will be charged RM17 only. Such a good deal! So my little sister got 1 set for herself also then we split the costs. My friend got a dress from Roxy too the other day after I told her about the promotion so her boyfriend picked out a very cute dress for her! :)  I can't wait to wear it when I go to Sunway Lagoon this coming June! It's going to be a family affair haha! I'll take pictures to show you guys which one I got. :)

Turns out the results for the Roxy Girl competition will be out tomorrow at 3p.m. They will release the Top 75 in the world so it's going to be interesting to see which one of the Malaysian girl's got in. :)

I just remembered that I have not shown any of my film photos of my Turkey trip last year over here! Just click on the link to be redirected to my Lomohome where I store all of my film pictures and thank god,I did save it there or else it would have disappeared together with my still in repair Acer laptop.

Here's 2 of my favourites! :-D

This is  one of the historical place which used to be a home a long time ago and it was taken in Cappadocia, Turkey, one of the most beautiful places I have ever been to and one of my favourite places in Turkey! :)

This is the remaining columns in Efes, Izmir, Turkey. Another beautiful historical site in Turkey! Only bad thing was it was extremely hot that day so I couldn't really enjoy the place as much as I want to.

I split it into 2 albums, one's for colour and the other is black & white film.

Results will be out soon.

Not sure when the results of the Roxy Girl Competition will be released because some said it is on the 16th and others said it is on the 17th? Oh well, I feel a little nervous as it gets closer to the day where the winner will be announced but no matter what happens, I will be happy for the girls who won the competition! It is the journey and experience and the people that I got to know that matters! I am very lucky to be even chosen as one of the finalist so I am very grateful to Roxy Malaysia for giving me this opportunity of a lifetime! It's not everyday that a girl gets to experience the things only a Roxy Girl can enjoy. :)

I am very happy to have met so many beautiful girls and people throughout this experience! It was so interesting and fun to know so many people with wonderful talents and personalities and I managed to make so many new friends too! I can see why all of us were chosen to be finalist for this competition. :D

I still remember the time when I was around 15 years old, seventeen magazine gave free tickets to whoever who bought that certain issue, for the Quiksilver Revolution Tour 2005 which was held in Sunway Lagoon Surf Beach. My friends and I even got Roxy goodie bags and we were very excited to see The Click Five perform that day! It was my first time attending a surfing event so I was very curious to see the pro surfers that day plus I was excited to see how do the pros do it. I remember there was a surfer named Julian Wilson and years ago, he was on the Quiksilver billboard commercial in shopping malls and I would always get excited because he's was the cutest surfer! :D My friends and I would scream his name when he surfed during that tour. XD

Too bad that they don't have anymore Quiksilver events. After that event, I was hoping that they have it every year because it's so exciting and fun!

I have always been eager to try surfing but that event has really skyrocketed my desire to take up surfing and till today, I still want to try it out even after watching movies which portrayed surfing as a very dangerous sport cause you might get bitten by sharks in the sea.  If I can't try surfing then I might try snowboarding! Jia Von, a friend of mine who's studying in Canada told me that Roxy Canada only sold winter wear and snowboarding stuff so she hopes that one day, she can see my face promoting Roxy in Canada. Hahaha! I'll let fate to decide that.

Skateboarding would be cool too! I have a few friends who skateboards and there's a guy in my university who always travels around with his skateboard even when there's so many people. One day, that guy almost knocked into me too. If I ever learn skateboarding, I shall take Tony Hawk as my mentor cause I used to play the Tony Hawk game on the Playstation, haha! I won't skate at crowded places cause I might injure someone. Maybe I could take Avril Lavigne as an inspiration cause she was a skateboarder during her 'Complicated' time.

This competition has been fun and though there's some competitiveness going on between the girls, I hope they had fun too cause I certainly did! Good luck and may the odds be ever in your favour! :)

Who's the singer?

In my last post, I mentioned that I met someone famous during that event so did anyone have any guesses?

The minute I saw her, I was like, 'Hey,I have seen her somewhere before!' and it turned out Yasyka knew her since high school cause the singer is 4 years her senior. Then I remembered!!! She's LIYANA FIZI FROM ESTRELLA, WHO SANG THIS REALLY NICE SONG THAT I HAVE BEEN SEARCHING FOR A LONG TIME SINCE I HEARD IT AGES AGO!

I was like, OMG! I am actually meeting that girl who was in that video in the flesh. I asked Yasyka if she could introduce us and if I could take picture with her so Yasyka did her thing and I tried not to hyperventilate. She touched the hair bow on my hair and I nearly screamed for joy. Thank goodness I didn't do that. Hahaha!

I heard Estrella has disbanded already and now she's pursuing her solo singing career. She's one of the local singers that I think can make it to the international stage. Her voice is so soothing and she's really nice in person too! Her music is really nice to listen to when you're driving in your car and it can bring back the nice memories you have in your life. :) So check out her music and support your local musicians! :)

Hanger Magazine Spring/Summer Launch

A week ago, I was invited by Roxy Malaysia to attend Hanger Magazine's Spring/Summer Issue launching event in ecoba, PJ Trade Centre. It was my first time there so the venue is a really nice place and I heard it's all made out of recycled products. So I was one of the earliest and we were provided free drinks courtesy of Absolut Vodka and Redbull and we each got a free Hanger magazine too! :)

These are the pictures that I took with Baby (my blackberry's name) from the event. :)

There's an article about the Roxy Girl competition in the magazine too! I love actually reading this magazine because it's different from the usual lifestyle magazines I read like CLEO. The fashion pages in the magazines are all from designers that I rarely heard of which is interesting. It's a magazine about alternative things like music, fashion and events. You can buy this magazine in bookstores now.

A performance from The Impatient Sisters. Their voices are really soothing so I feel so chillax while I was enjoying their performance. :)

Me and Catherine! She's one of the nicest people I have ever met and she really cares about us Roxy Girls.

Yasyka, Sher Lynn, me and Veeiean. :)

I was asking Yasyka about her hobbies and she said she's into surfing and longboarding. Since I have always wanted to try surfing, I asked her how did she got into it and the other details. Now I feel more encouraged to really take up surfing but it's quite expensive to get a surfboard so I have to work harder and spend less to afford one. I can't wait for a chance to be able to learn surfing because I have always wished that I could just go to one of those surfing camps that they have in Australia to learn! The only place I knew where we could surf is Sunway Lagoon so Yasyka told me you could surf in Terengganu too! One day I will go there to check it out!

Lyna decides to join in too! :)

This is Miranda from Hanger Magazine. I really loved what she was wearing that day!

Dustyhawk took these really nice pictures during that night!

The girl is SueAnn Chong, editor of Hanger Magazine. If I am not mistaken, I think she writes for Tongue In Chic too.

Me and the lovely, Ashley! :)

The Roxy Girl's who went for this event.

They won the Best Dressed Award that night, I LOVE HER HAIR! I really want to try to dip-dye my hair but the damage my hair has to go through just to dye it in bright colors is too much of a risk to me. Maybe once the curls are not too damaged then I might do it. :)

I LOVE THIS PICTURE! :)

This is so cute! I have to give props to Lionel for taking pictures for us everytime! :)

These are the pictures that was posted on Hanger Magazine's facebook page.

We were the earliest there, hahaha! :)

There was a performance by Darren Ashley and I really love his remixes! They are so catchy that I wanted to start dancing but it would be so awkward when no one is even dancing to it.

Last group shot after the event ended. We were shouting, 'WE LOVE HANGER MAGAZINE!'. XD

I met a famous local singer at this event but I am not going to tell who yet. You just have to watch this space! :)

Uncle from Germany came down!

Florian, my uncle came down to Malaysia for a visit recently for a week because he was in Singapore for a business trip. It has been years since I saw him and looks like he never changed one bit. He managed to bring us some chocolates and sausages from Germany!

That's my grandma, Uncle Florian and my cousin, Kye Tze at the front. Me, my little sister, Kye Chin, my cousin, Kye Ernn, my other little sister, Kye Jan and lastly, my cousin, Kye Ci. Yup, our names all start by Lung Kye.... people think its weird because we all start our names the same way.

When we were younger, I don't know why my mum cut my hair that way. I look so old.

While walking around IKEA. I love that place, awesome food and furniture and household stuff. I can't wait to get my own house someday and decorate it to however I want it to be! XD

Hopefully on the end of this year, my sisters and I are able to travel to Germany to visit my uncle's family there! We plan to travel around Europe for a month to places like Switzerland, Amsterdam, Paris, Poland and maybe Austria too! I miss Europe, it has been years since I traveled there. Good thing about traveling is it like an escape from your daily life/routine back in your own country, no one knows you there and its a new way to open your horizons about other places. That's why I have always have dreams to be an air stewardess or a travel writer/host like Asha Gill and Samantha Brown or have traveling as part of my job!

Ipoh getaway with the Karats.

So during our last week of our mid-semester break, Ayesha, Charmaine and I traveled to Ipoh to stay over at Jaclyn's place for 4 days and 3 nights.

Charmaine aka Kepo who's not part of the Karat family but she wishes to be in the family, hahaha! Ayesha's the mum and then Jaclyn's my sister who works in the petting zoo as the animal itself, hahaha!!!

We're known as the Karats (Rust in Malay language) because our daddy,Nigel Chin said so (He's in Adelaide now, leaving the family alone in Malaysia. :-( ) basically the children doesn't have a say in anything.

So as Ayesha, Charmaine and I were on our way to Ipoh, a Proton Saga FLX Gold coloured with a Kedah number plate, was tailgating Ayesha's car and there was 2 Malay men in the car who kept staring at us as they drive side by side our car and kept flashing too! It was so annoying, scary and stupid at the same time because the left lane was free of cars and they didn't want to go to that lane. They were basically stalking our car. Seriously, we couldn't avoid them until a Honda came in between so that Honda basically saved our lives or else we would have been stalked all the way to Ipoh.So ladies, if you're going on a girly trip and these stupid people comes and disturbs you, just ignore them and follow your lane, if you drive faster, they enjoy the chase more so be very careful! If it is getting worst then I suggest calling for help.

Since Nigel could not be with us, we took this to represent Nigel! XD

So we dropped our luggage at Jaclyn's place then we went for Chicken Hor Fun at Ong Kee Restaurant! How I miss Ipoh's awesome food!

Jaclyn with Nigel the penguin! We brought him together with us the whole time.

Charmaine and Ayesha with her favourite chillis!

We watched some movies after lunch, such as White Chicks which is our all-time favourite! XD

Then it came to dinnertime and this is our tradition, whenever we come down to Ipoh, we must have Char Hor Fun for dinner!!! On the first night, we went to this shop! Sadly, I did not take any pictures because the minute the food reached our table, it's gone in seconds! Which further proves how good it is!!! We ordered a plate of squid, Char Hor Fun (DUH!) and Wa Tan Hor which is not as nice as the Char Hor Fun and some Pork.

Call us crazy but on the 2nd night we went to the other restaurant which is beside the one we went yesterday to eat the same thing again because they both sell the same thing. In my opinion, I prefer the first shop because the Char Hor Fun there tasted better! The second shop gives bigger sized squid which is also a good thing! No pictures again cause it was Hor Fun.

The next day, Lena invited us to her home for a steamboat dinner with her parents! It was again filled with awesome food hence no pictures. Her parents were really cool! They made us eat so much that I couldn't even breath properly. After dinner, we played some cards and then we went home.

DADDY!!!
The reason why we had steamboat at her place instead of going out to a steamboat restaurant is because, we were still scared from what happened the last time we came to Ipoh and had steamboat at one of the steamboat restaurants here. It was about 10.30p.m and there was still many people in the restaurant, we were sitting outside beside the main road and behind our table was another table with 2 young girls and beside our table was a table full of guys.

We were so engrossed into a topic until we heard one of the guys at the next table yelled, then a girl screamed and we turned around we saw a man with a motorcycle helmet grabbed one of the girl's bag and just drove away on his motorcycle. It happened so fast and everyone was in shocked and I feel so bad for the girl. It was pretty scary too because it was my first time witnessing this and it was so close to our table, the man could have taken our bags because all of our bags are on the chair in between Jaclyn and Charmaine. So immediately after that happened, we just paid and brisk walked to our car and was so paranoid and afraid the whole night.

So we were pretty scarred from then on until today, Charmaine and Ayesha even brought cheap sling bags to Ipoh instead of the normal handbags to Ipoh and we even put our important stuffs in 1 bag instead so that all of us don't have to bring all our bags out. So again, I am going to say this! BE SUPER SUPER SUPER CAREFUL WITH YOUR BAGS, ALWAYS KEEP THEM WITH YOU,DON'T PUT IT ON A CHAIR, PUT IT ON YOUR LAP!

P.S: I got a new laptop because my Acer laptop died on me when my assignments deadlines were so close so I had no choice but to get a new one. Everyone please meet Lambo from Asus! He's a notebook! XD
