Very late CNY Post

Horrible of me, I know! Blogging about Chinese New Year on April only. I willingly send myself a fail-whale! I'm having my 2 weeks mid-term break now so I'm utilizing as much as I can. Plus, I had to cover quite a number of events for Taylor's Inkslingers newspaper next week. Busy like buzzing bee~

Every year, my family and I will always go and pray at the temple before the first day of CNY so we did. Then, we found out that I was still one of Goddess of Mercy's godchild and when you're her godchild, you can't eat beef. So I have been sinning since I was a kid. Thankfully, I wasn't aware about it so it's not considered as sin. My late-grandfather was suppose to get my name of her godchild's list when I was 16 but I guess he forgot to do it and the parents assumed I was already released so I was eating beef as much as I want. Now I can't even ask for a release until the day I got married. -_-lll Guess I have to take this as a no red meat diet. First week of no beef sucked and I accidentally had Mekong House's Beef Noodles so I tried compensating by being vegetarian the next day. I was half-dead already before dinner time. However, I am A-OK now! Still sad that I can't have beef but I can get over it. :)

We had a reunion lunch at New Paris, SS2 I think. Food's good! All the pictures are taken by my cousin.

Anyway, then we zoomed to Ipoh the next day and had grandma's cooking also. I love grandma's cooking, her sweet and sour vegetable stew is DA BOMB! It's one of those dishes where they longer they are stewed the better the taste. :) Thinking about it now, I'm already missing it!

Grandpa's suffering with leukemia now and he's been discharged from the hospital because he said he doesn't want to suffer anymore so he's brought back home. Now we're just waiting. :( I hope all is well.

2013 Post CNY Hair Colour

I am so grateful to have met Melvin who did my hair during the Matrix hair show that I did last year because now I can probably call him my go-to hairstylist(Well, depends on his schedule.). Another plus point is he doesn't charge me a cent. I'm like 'How is this even possible?!'. He told me he can't charge me or he'll get sued by the company because he's using us to test colour outcomes of the hair dyes from Matrix. So I baked him some puff pastry to repay him for giving me free hair treatments, hair colourings, hair cuts and hair products! XD. It's also because I was too lazy to make red velvet cupcakes, though it is my specialty but it's a lot of work.

Some Pain Au Chocolate that actually looks like decent puff pastries. I put some Dove Dark Chocolate pieces inside each. It was my first time working with puff pastry(Bought pre-made ones from Giant.) so I was experimenting a lot so I made a lot of different shapes and I even made some cinnamon sugar ones which didn't go well cause the sugar burned as it was baking. I even tried making croissants and the first batch of that does not look like a croissant but I got better at it as I made more. :)

This is my hair before. Roots growing out and the highlights have faded and the colours too until it became this awful brown. What's even worst is having your mum nag you every single time she notices your hair.

Guess that was the tipping point for me. I immediately made an appointment with him.

He saw my hair last year when I brought Vivien to get her hair coloured and cut for free by him also and he told me that I can't get any guys with that hair. I was tres offended and le heart shattered even when I was already with my beau that time. She's going  back to him to touch-up on her roots once she gets back from Sarawak too and he's still doing it for free. We need to treat him to dinner someday.

Had dinner at Secrets of Louisiana at night and my hair was super red like Hayley Williams red hair.

Now it has faded into this brown colour. :)

Initially I was suppose to re-bond my hair because mum was nagging even after I coloured my hair because I still have frizzy hair because my hair grew and I was not born with Asian straight hair like other girls. I have wavy hair.What's a girl to do?

So now I'm in a dilemma on whether to rebond my hair or if I should go to touch up my roots. I really want to try out the new range of purple dyes that he told me that would be out around June.

One FC the first time

A very outdated post but I got to attend the One FC Championship on 2 February in Putra Stadium for the first time thanks to the beau and his friends who managed to get free tickets for us! I got to know about One FC through this XBox Kinect game called 'UFC Personal Trainer: The Ultimate Fitness System'. It was my workout game other than the 'Dance Central' game. I almost kicked my dad's precious speakers down multiple times because there wasn't much space to move around.

So many people were like, 'How come you know about UFC?'. From that Kinect and sometimes you can watch it on TV too. But according to my friends, UFC is more extreme than what we're seeing in One FC. However, I don't know who are the famous fighters until that day. I guess these kind of events and sports are getting more popular in Malaysia. Muay Thai and MMA especially cause more people are taking classes because of fitness or just because it's the trend or they really want to be a fighter!

These are the only clear pictures that I have from the event so bear with me. It was so cool to actually see the Octagon in real life and hear the MC shouting their names to welcome them to the ring. First-blood happened during the first match too. So fast got blood shed. Found out that usually there's not much blood shed during the matches but during this event, there was so much blood shed.

That dude in black tight shorts was a silat fighter. I was like 'Damn,he's super fit just like his super tight shorts!'. But of course, how can a silat fighter beat a Muay Thai fighter? I don't think I have seen any silat moves too.

Ok I seriously think he picked the wrong theme song for this match! He was one of the most awaited fighter because he never lose a match at all! But thanks to his theme song which is 'Never Say Never'-Justin Bieber and Jayden Smith, I think that totally killed his mojo and it cursed him. Which was why he lost and his match was so boring, I think I almost fell asleep.

Given that chance to go again to these kinda events, I would so go!!! It's really interesting to see everyone from different walks of life with different martial arts background fight for their honour. GAH, I MISS CAPOEIRA!!!! :(

First concert of 2013

THE VACCINES, The Bee, Publika. Well, I found out about their concert after seeing their poster during the ice-cream appreciation class ages ago. I went to listen to their music and it's immediate LOVE! This is the kind of rock music that I wish that the local radio stations would play more often instead of repeating the same pop songs every hour, everyday. So Emily and I managed to get tickets for it at the last minute because it was selling like hot cakes. :)

We redeemed our tickets at The Bee and since the doors were not open so we went to get some food. Emily introduced this Chilli Pan Mee shop in Publika's food court to me and that's where we had our pre-concert meal. It's really good Chilli Pan Mee but sadly the portion is smaller than normal and it's not really worth the price for that portion.

The tickets are actually different than the usual yellow thin paper! It's good quality paper and at least the words won't fade so we can keep it longer for memories. :)

We started lining up at 8pm and already the crowd was building up. There was even people asking around if anyone was selling tickets as it was sold out. Emily bought their album while we waited in line. Since it's an 18 above concert, the ushers checked our ID's and bags before we could enter. A bunch of people in front of us couldn't get it even after they got the wristband already cause they were underage. It's good that they were strict with it.

The moment we walked in, a bunch of girls carrying cigarette boxes suddenly said Hello to us. We don't smoke so we just went on into the crowd. The bar was open too so many people were getting drinks and chilling as we wait for the Opening Act which was The Rubens. To be honest, I did not check out their music beforehand so I don't know what to expect but all I know is, they opened for The Black Keys before. So I guess they have to be good right?

They were AWESOME! Like seriously good! They all drank beer instead of water. The vocalist has a really good voice. Emily has fallen in love with keyboardist. I think they sang about 8 songs or more.

They had an accent so we initially thought they were British but after the concert, I went online to listen to their awesome music again and found out they were Australians. Nice. Check out 'My Gun' and 'Never Be The Same'. The vocalist said '' is his personal favourite and he played the keyboard while singing this song. :)

After waiting for them to change the instruments and the entire crowd screaming for The Vaccines and they finally came out after 30 minutes! XD

The crowd went ape shit and a bunch of dudes started creating a wall of death out of nowhere and I was wearing my wedges so can you imagine Emily and I being pushed from  left to right and almost falling down numerous of times?

I almost got kicked in the head by some random dude who was so-called crowd surfing. I was hanging on to my handbag too because I'm paranoid and I was so unprepared for this to be a rock concert.

Emily and I were expecting it to be a chillout concert because their songs on Youtube seems to be really chillout but boy, we were so wrong! Lesson learnt.

All in all, they were AWESOME!!! They are the type of band that will engage the crowd and that's what I love about them! I went apeshit when they sang 'Post Break-up Sex', 'If You Wanna', 'Teenage Icon', and 'Wetsuit'(The crowd went extra apeshit for this one.).

I think they sang all of the songs from their album and I heard after the concert they even have an autograph session! Too bad I can't stay long for it. What's even more weird is that there was the 40+ age group of people at the concert too. We didn't know that old people listens to their music too.

My legs thankfully is still able to help me walk down the escalator which has been switched off. Seriously, at least leave it on until every single human leaves the mall. Emily was sitting at the escalator and called me crazy  for being able to walk down after the damage inflicted from the concert.

The Rubens and The Vaccines welcomed our 2013 with a blast and next would be Future Music Festival Asia! I got a good feeling that loads of awesome bands are going to perform in Malaysia which is good for us but bad for our purses.

A piece of Serendah

So a bunch of us planned this trip to Sekeping Serendah as a mini reunion for Xin Ni and our other UTAR buddies since she came back from Kiwiland/New Zealand. We all met up at Hon Yuen's house which is all the way in Balakong which was so far away.

We were trying to get to Sekeping Serendah using Hon Yuen's phone GPS and his battery was dying so you can expect how worried we were or maybe it was just me. Hon Yuen drives like a madman too cause his car is a manual car and I was sitting in the middle so I get super scared when he tailgates the cars in front of him. I was yelling at him to drive slowly cause we ain't rushing. We almost got lost because we ended up at the waterfall instead but luckily we asked someone there for the right directions. It turns out we need to go to this narrow road at a corner and drive on until we reach the private land.

The caretaker greeted us and he was very helpful and he asked us if we want breakfast for tomorrow but we didn't take that offer cause we have to pay extra and besides, we went grocery shopping at Tesco, Rawang before we headed to Serendah. Bought insect repellant too since we were staying inside a jungle. He told us that he will come set up the barbeque pit for us at 6p.m.

The bedroom upstairs and extra pillows, mattresses, mosquito nets(THE MOST IMPORTANT THING) and blankets were provided since we had 2 extra people. Oddly,there's a sink too and you can actually lock the stairs too. My Roxy tote makes the picture more real. Hehehe!

Xin Ni luckily told Hon Yuen to bring his tripod along so with the camera's timer we managed to take a bunch of group shots. :)

Suddenly, we used a tissues as our prop. I was going for the farewell handkerchief pose. Kai Jun just doesn't wanna pose with the tissue.

Xin Ni and I did most of the prep work and the cooking in the kitchen while the dudes handle the barbecue pit. We forgotten bring butter or oil or salt or pepper so we had to improvise with what we have.

Then, I had a lightbulb moment and suggested we used the oil from the Mee Sedap Instant Noodles that we gave from Tesco. So we coated some of the vegetables and put it in the toaster to make something to feed ourselves cause the caretaker was late in helping to set up the pit.

Then, we had another lightbulb moment! Xin Ni brought bacon so we fried the bacon on the frying pan which was provided and used the oil from there. Bacon is so useful. XD

It rained 3 times that day. Once in the evening and twice at night, halfway through the cooking at the pit and everyone had to bring all the food inside so that there's no extra flavouring from the rain.

I couldn't sleep at all cause the guys were making so much noise downstairs. I don't know how Xin Ni and Hon Yuen can sleep through the noise. It was really cold too and there was bugs but not too many. So I eavesdropped on their man-talk. Mostly about games and why none of them wanted to sleep beside Hon Yuen even when there's plenty of space. 

Xin Ni woke up early to prepare breakfast for us which was the leftover bacon, sausages, bread and instant noodles and she was laughing her butt off when she was those 3 Stooges sleeping together.

These 3 slept on the extra mattresses that was provided. They were proud of how they folded the mosquito net so that it doesn't cave in. -_-lll

I became so kiasu over the Scrabble match between Wilson, Chee Keen, Kai Jun and I. I kept getting 2nd and 3rd! Wilson kept winning! Their nickname for me in the game was 'Kilin the Pink' and 'Kilin the Eugene'. -_-lll

Well, I had to hold something so the potato that was left overnight on the pit it is!

I really had an awesome time on this trip! It's time like these where you can really catch up with everyone and you will focus more on preparing good food too. There was no mosquitoes at all. I did not get a single bite when I was there. *touch wood* All of us were so worried about being dinner for the mosquitoes that night but we survived. There were loads of flying insects, moths and what-nots but I don't think they are harmful.

Read reviews before we came here that the hot water shower does not last so most of us did not use the shower because it was so cold. Wilson used it and he said that the hot water will be there for a few minutes then it will become cold water, then you have to wait a while until the hot water comes back. It was RM540 per night so each of us paid RM90. We had to pay extra RM100 for 2 additional pax.

Will I go back there? Yes! Maybe I'll try out the other houses in the future when I have the budget. :)
